- Fraser Institute economists harp on a so-called "lost decade" under the previous NDP government, but a 2012 study by the University of British Columbias business school concludes neither Liberals nor the NDP were significantly better in managing the provinces debt or spending. The annual real GDP increased on average by 2.72% in the 1990s (NDP), and 2.36% during the 2000s (Liberals).
- Families decide to invest in housing, cars for commuting, and education even if that means (horror!) running a temporary deficit. To make progress, the Province of B.C. must also put money upfront into housing, into transit, into education and into health care. Failing to do so would not only be an abdication of responsibility but a more expensive option in the long run.

- a newly published study from the University of British Columbias business school concludes neither party is significantly better than the other when it comes to managing the provinces debt or spending.
- The study looked at the performance of the B.C. economy and fiscal management under the NDP from 1991 to 2001, as well as under the Liberals between 2001 and 2013.
- The report found that the NDP actually controlled spending and debt better than the Liberals, relative to other provinces over the same time period.

- The most common way to capture economic performance is to look at the evolution of real gross domestic product
- the total value of goods and services produced each year, adjusted to remove the effects of inflation. On this measure,
- British Columbia has enjoyed reasonably steady economic growth over the last three decades with annual real GDP
- increasing on average by:
- 2.12% in the 1980s,
- 2.72% in the 1990s, and
- 2.36% in the 2000s.
